Artist Statement

The Elements which answer the questions are...

Hydrogen - the matter of which clouds are made, which give comfort wherever we are.
Carbon - the Element which makes up our bodies, diamonds and a substantial part of the Universe.
Europium - named after the Continent of my birth. Used only in the Uranium Industry which brought my family to Canada.

My piece is about the blending of my ancestral culture with the land I’ve come to know and love. I have chosen to hide a diamond along with a snippet of my old European Union passport to represent the treasure that is my past. Now, for many years I have lived in the Rockies balancing my heritage, family and art. This is represented by the picture of the clouds over the snowcapped mountains as the background for the “Balancing Act”, a game that is challenging at first but becomes almost second nature with practice.
